Personally Illmatic has aged better, it was written has skippable tracks and while it's the best of the "Escobar era" by a mile it doesn't hold a candle to Illmatic. That was kind of my thoughts and my issue with such titles. He likely didn't "write Illmatic" at 16. Rather he wrote bars which wound up on Illmatic at 16.
